A member of the golf team last year lines up a putt during a golf practice last season.

Five weeks down, three more to go. Westside’s varsity girls golf team will find out if they make it to state on October 7th during districts at Tiburon. Tiburon is considered the team’s home course, so the girls will have a “home field” advantage this year.

“It will be a tough tournament but we can definitely do it,” said varsity girls golf head coach Barry Glanzer. “Our little Warriors can shock some people.”

The team made it to state last season, and remaining members from that team are hoping to repeat the experience.

“Last year at state was so much fun,” said sophomore Claire Nelson, a varsity golfer. “I hope this year we get the chance to go back. Playing is fun, but so is team bonding.”

The team has been to eight tournaments, and has six more to go. After a rocky start, the team improved, and ended up winners of the Duchesne Invite.

In the Ralston/Westside invite Monday, Sept. 30, the team placed seventh out of 14, shooting a 426, an average of 106.5 per golfer. The team was led by Clair Selby, who shot a 98 and placed 13th.

The team played Tuesday, Oct. 1 at metros, as well. They finished with a 393.
