Ending last season with a 15-23 record, varsity volleyball coach, Kim Eymann, sees improvement for this upcoming season.

“We have a lot of experience coming back [into the season],” Eymann said. “There are some good metro teams, but we have really good leadership and I think that if we just stay healthy we can stay pretty competitive with everybody.”

Only losing two players, volleyball is coming back into the season with five returning seniors, Cara Treu, Lauren Salerno, Morgan Zabel, Miranda Thacker and Sydney Holzworth.

“One benefit about have a lot of seniors is they know this is it,” Eymann said. “They won’t have that ‘Oh, we’ll do it next year’ excuse. I think they are going to leave it all out there.”

Although the team has several returning members, they are replacing the setter, Madyson Bridwell, which will be a big adjustment to the players.

“With this group of girls, they all know their roles,” Eymann said. “They know they can’t rely on one person.”

With a tough schedule, according to Eymann, the team will have to play each game match by match.

“Marian is always a big competitor,” Senior Cara Treu said. “The Papio schools should be good too, but I think we have a good chance against all the teams we play.”

The season starts off with a tournament at Bellevue West on Sept. 5, and the players are all ready for the season together.

“Our team gets along better than the other teams out there,” Treu said. “Bonding with my teammates and trying to stay lighthearted is important to me.”
