Each week, varsity tennis player senior Max Slosburg will be providing us with a first-person look at the Westside varsity tennis team. Slosburg, who is called Slōs by the tennis team, will be keeping you up to date on all of the team’s matches and season outlook. His weekly update will be located on the Sports Showcase. For tennis team results, visit the sports page. This preview will serve as our fourth sports preview in our series. To see the other previews, click girls golf, volleyball and football

Welcome to Slōs’s Tennis Corner! I’m Slōs (Max Slosburg). Here, I will be providing periodic updates on the boys tennis program. We look forward to having a successful season and keeping you updated throughout the whole thing!

Varsity Roster: We are lucky to be returning eight varsity players out of the 10 spots on the team. We are returning our previous No. 1 Singles player Sean Padios, No. 1 Doubles player Tom Kutilek, No. 2 Singles player Max Slosburg and No. 2 Doubles player Teigen Swanson.

New Additions: We have two new additions to the tennis program. First is our new varsity coach: Mr. McMahon. McMahon is taking the place of long-term varsity coach Kim Gradoville, who is now coaching at College of Saint Mary. McMahon brings years of junior varsity coaching experience and an inspiring passion for tennis to the team. Our other addition is Dillon Ketcham. Dillon is a talented player who transferred from Creighton Prep. In his freshman season, Dillon won the state championship at No. 2 Doubles.

Season Goals: With our team’s new additions, we are looking to make Westside Tennis a force to be reckoned with. We have a very talented team and have the potential to have a successful season and place in the state tournament.

Last Season: I think we got ninth at state, but all that matters is the success we’re about to have. (Upon further research by Westside Wired editors, the team did, in fact, place ninth.)
